Vientiane Capital, May 4 – In a surprise move, the LMA2 Judges Committee, acting on behalf of the Department of the Performing Arts of the Ministry of Information and Culture, withdrew two (2) LMA awards and the accompanying material benefits from Pull-T Club.
The reasons for the withdrawal are as follows:
1. Withdrawal of Best Hip-Hop Song Award: Hom
· On the grounds that the winning song “Hom” does not conform to the winning criteria of the Lao Music Awards in that it used the entire melody from the following foreign song: We Are The Club (Rykno Ft. K-11 & Nicole Marie). The LMA2 Judges Committee has confirmed that these two songs’ melodies are similar to the point where there is no possibility that they were produced separately and independently. It is without a doubt that “Hom” is an imitation of “We are the Club.”
2. Withdrawal of Best Hip-Hop Artist Award: Pull-T Club
· Due to the above reason, Pull-T Club has displayed improper conduct and behavior unbefitting of true original artists. Plagiarism is a serious offence and one that should not be taken lightly especially when it risks tarnishing the reputation of the nation in the international arena.
Sengdara Communications, the official event organizer of the Lao Music Awards 2011, humbly obliged to faithfully respect and honor the decision of the Ministry of Information and Culture and hopes that these withdrawals will act not only as a deterrent to future imitators but serve to reinforce the integrity of the Lao Music Awards, strengthen society’s confidence in Lao artists and ultimately raise the status of Lao music in the world.
