The Lao Music Awards are presented by the Ministry of Information and Culture of Laos for outstanding achievements in the growing music industry. The awards ceremony features performances by prominent artists, and some of the awards of more popular interest are presented in a widely viewed televised ceremony.

Sengdara Communications hosted the first-ever Lao Music Awards in 2008 at the National Culture Hall in Vientiane Capital. It was a nationally-televised, star-studded show, packing a powerful punch of light humor and entertainment, incredible performances, and Facebook trend-setting moments, all generously sponsored by Close-Up (Unilever) & Tigo.

Host Allan Khompanya (CEO of KPY Entertainment) steered the rhythm and flow of the show with a combination of articulate speech and polite humor and mannerisms. The rock group, Cells dominated the night, winning 3 awards. However, the night truly belonged to all the fans (both at home and at the awards site) who were excited to see their favorite stars give awe-inspiring performances and win the coveted trophies.

Winning the awards and marveling at beautiful celebrity fashion moments are part of the LMAs, but the night is really about the music. L.O.G. and Modern Dance opened the 2008 show that had everyone wanting to beat the beat. Other performances were extremely well choreographed and executed.

The LMAs has etched its place in pop culture as the go-to source for an unforgettable night that EVERYONE will be talking about. That is, until next year's show: April-09-2011.
